In the desert

Hi,

Sorry we haven't posted new entries in so long. Debby's old laptop started to fail while we were still in Cape Town (the power connection is failing). It was deteriorating quickly so we decided to not use it except for really essential stuff because we knew soon we would not be able to use it anymore.

Then, the day before we left Cape Town we found out that Mac's sell for about the same in South Africa as they do in California--and they are exactly the same machine. So we bought a really cool black Mac Book for Debby to replace her failing Fujitsu. If you follow along on the photo album you might have seen pictures of it already. I haven't ported over my posting scripts and I don't like using the blogger interface that much (I can only post while online) so I haven't been writing much.

We are now on the edge of the Namib desert, in the city of Swakopmund. It's just a small oasis on the edge of the desert, next to the Atlantic ocean. We were expecting the weather to be some what cool since it is now Autumn, but it's been boiling hot. And the sun is really strong so it's hard to do a lot during the middle of the day. Today we took a really cool cruise on Walvis Bay. We got to get real close to the seals and the birds (we'll post photos soon so you can see).

Which reminds me. We hadn't noticed that iPhoto uploads photos to Picasa out-of-order. So if you looked at the album and didn't see any new photos, check again.  They are in order now so you can simply go to the end and look for new photos.

Also, the URL for the first album (Uganda & Tanzania) is,

http://picasaweb.google.com/dshepard/AfricaUganda?authkey=OVCjVRQHSJE

Sorry, it's not a link so you will actually have to copy&paste.

We've had a great time since we left Cape Town. We've really enjoyed driving in Namibia. A self-drive is so much more fun than an organized tour. Plus we've had a really good time spotting animals. Please do take a look at the photo album, as it has become our blog.

Tomorrow we are heading for the Sosussvlei desert. We'll spend 5 days visiting the area and then we'll head back to Windhoek to catch our flight to Botswana.
